Meet the Artist: Amy @tattoosbynim
•
From Brighton Convention 2025 to now, Amy (@tattoosbynim) has been part of the Moth and WBJ family for over a year! Her work speaks for itself, but we wanted to go a little deeper. We caught up with her for a Q&A to talk inspiration, process, and life as a tattoo artist.
How did you first get into tattooing?
I got offered an apprenticeship after trying and trying AND TRYING to get into a shop. I very nearly gave up to be honest!
How long have you been tattooing for?
I’m about to go into my 9th year. Eeeeep!
What made you want to become a tattoo artist?
I got my first tattoo and thought I’d only ever get one.
Then, I went to my first convention at Brighton racecourse and I just wanted to be part of that world. I loved art, but I didn’t know what to do with it. I loved creating but felt trapped in college courses. It took me 10 whole years to get my apprenticeship but honestly it was so worth the wait!
What style do you love tattooing the most?
Anything with a bold line and a ton of colour. My absolute favourites are kawaii, kitsch, pokemon, anime and anything cute or pop culture related!
Is there a style you’d like to explore more in the future?
I would love to do more anime or studio ghibli styled tattoos - especially gundam, black clover, more pokemon and sailor moon.
How would you describe your tattoo style in three words?
Cute
Colourful
Fun

Where do you usually get inspiration for your tattoos?
Usually it’s from my own personal interests or hobbies. I draw things that I will enjoy tattooing and I’m always so excited to do them all.
Is there an artist who really influenced your work?
I’ve always loved Roxy Ryder but I also adore Keeley Glitters, Rachel Baldwin and Tiggy
What’s been your favourite tattoo so far?
Right now it was a Totoro piece I did recently - I played with a mixture of styles with my own touch and I had the best time doing it.
What’s the most unusual tattoo request you’ve ever had?
I have been asked to do some pretty unusual but fun stuff - Steve Buscemi and a fruit winders packet are up there with the most different ones I’ve been asked to do.
What tattoo do you wish more people would ask for?
Personally for me - I would love to do more gundam related tattoos as it’s a personal interest of mine but also more 90s nostalgia would be brilliant!
What’s one thing people don’t realise about being a tattoo artist?
I think even I was naive to how much work behind the scenes is needed. It’s not just doing the tattoo and going home. You’re constantly thinking about how to be better, how to be seen, what content to make, how to figure out and improve your own style, the admin etc etc
Even sometimes I forget how much I need to do.
It never feels like work though because I love what I do.
What’s your go-to needle configuration?
Tight 5 liner
14 Round shader
15 curved mag
What do you look for in good tattoo supplies?
All pink everything of course!
I joke - sorta.
I like knowing that the things I’m using are genuinely good for the customer, make my job easier and that they help with the quality of work I can offer.
I like being able to have things in stock, especially when I find products I love but I also like trying new things.
I find it really lovely that the guys at moth have a good knowledge of their products with tattooists on hand to help at the booth at conventions to chat to.
How does your setup usually look when you’re tattooing?
I usually have a pink cup, moth carts, starbrite colours, my mast machine, biotat and proton goodies.
And a heckin’ ton of kitchen roll to clean up when I’m colouring in.
